A Worldwide Leader in Ceramic Media Manufacturing

Specialty Abrasives

Product Page Specialty AbrasivesWashington Mills Ceramics has developed a line of specialty ceramic tumbling media products by investing in technology that expands our capability to manufacture alternative ceramic media products. Through this innovation we have created a group of specialty ceramic media products that have unique characteristics and applications. These products include: DURALITE® II, DURALITE® II-S, DURALUM® XA, DURALUM® XM, DURAMEDIA® 3DCM and DURAMEDIA® PWS. DURALITE® products provide an alternative to plastic media, used in light deburring or surface conditioning for soft metals or delicate parts. DURALUM® products are hard and tough products with applications that range from deburring to coloring.

DURALITE® II

DURALITE®II is a ceramic media that is lightweight with an excellent cut to wear ratio designed for use on delicate parts. (65 lbs. /cubic foot, color: beige)

Applications

DURALITE® II serves as an alternative to plastic for light deburring and surface conditioning on softer metals. It is excellent for use with die cast parts and in aerospace applications.

DURALITE® II-S

DURALITE®II-S is the silicon carbide version of DURALITE®II. In addition to being lightweight and having an excellent cut to wear ratio, it can be used where brown fused aluminum oxide exposure is undesirable. (65 lbs. /cubic foot, color: beige)

Applications

DURALITE® II-S is the perfect formula for parts to be welded or soldered, where exposure to aluminum oxide is undesirable. It also provides mild cutting action where shorter cycle times are required.

DURALUM® XA

DURALUM® XA is the ideal tumbling nugget- dense, tough, and yet free-cutting.  A true micro-crystalline fused aluminum oxide abrasive. Its solid structure, super-fine crystal size and carefully controlled chemistry make it strong and durable. (145 lbs. /cubic foot, color: gray/charcoal/black)

Applications

DURALUM® XA is a fast ceramic media that is impact resistant over a wide range of demanding applications.

DURALUM® XM

DURALUM® XM is a sintered ceramic tumbling nugget with exceptional properties.  Hard, durable ad extremely dense.   (140 lbs. /cubic foot, color: dark brown)

Applications

DURALUM® XM is principally used in mass finishing burnishing applications. It can also be used for light burr removal, radius formation, and is an effective driver for loose abrasives in cut and color operations. It is a coloring abrasive; its hardness, toughness, and extremely fine-crystalline structure make it one of the best products for developing a lustrous, high-color burnish on all types of ferrous metals, brass, and aluminum. It is also an excellent substitute for steel metal applications.

DURAMEDIA 3DCM®

DURAMEDIA 3DCM® is a premium ceramic formula designed for the hard alloys common in additive manufacturing. (125 lbs. /cubic foot, color: dark brown)

Applications

DURAMEDIA 3DCM® is a specialty media designed specifically to work with metal alloy 3D printed parts. It is exceptional for use on aerospace alloys such as titanium. Click here to read more about 3DCM®, 3DCML® and 3DPM.

DURAMEDIA 3DCML®

DURAMEDIA 3DCML® is the fastest cutting ceramic media on the market.  It is the more aggressive version of the 3DCM formula. (125 lbs. /cubic foot, color: dark brown)

Applications

DURAMEDIA 3DCML® is designed for use in vibratory bowls and tubs in applications where maximum metal removal is the goal.  It can be used on carbon steel, cobalt chrome alloys, nickel chromium alloys, or any metal 3D printed material. Click here to read more information about 3DCM®, 3DCML®, 3DPM.

DURAMEDIA® PWS

DURAMEDIA® PWS is a proprietary ceramic media with fused zirconia abrasive. The harder the alloy, the more it separates itself from standard products. It has a mild attrition rate for a media this aggressive. (105 lbs. /cubic foot, color: off-white)

Applications

DURAMEDIA® PWS is specially formulated for maximum cutting ability on exotic metals such as inconel, titanium and hardened chrome alloy products. It is used specifically for deburring on aerospace alloys.
