These products do not contain abrasive; therefore are incapable of significant metal removal, unless used in combination with acid accelerants. Non-abrasive media is long lasting and is typically used for burnishing and polishing. Ceramic products available for non-abrasive applications are DURAMEDIA® FB, 10, 120, 140, and DURALUM® XM. DURAMEDIA® Steel products, 304ss and 1013 are also offered as non-abrasive media.

These products typically have low abrasive content and are used when a small amount of metal removal is desired, thus resulting in smooth surface finishes. DURAMEDIA® products available for mild cut applications are 20/F and 50/SC. The DURAMEDIA® Plastic products available are Low Density 10 and High Performance 310MC and 350MC.

Containing more abrasive content than mild cut media, these products are used when metal removal is desired. Medium cut vibratory media results in the same amount of metal removal as fast cut media, but is usually used in conjunction with slower cycle times to create a smoother surface finish and improve the life of the media. DURAMEDIA® products available for medium cut applications are C, ECH, and 30. Additionally, DURAMEDIA® Plastic Low Density 40MC is also available.

Fast cut media generally has a high abrasive content and a higher than average density, which results in an increase in metal removal during the finishing process. This media is used when a large amount of work is required for a product; such as removal of heavy burrs or casting lines, improvement of a very rough surface, or rounding sharp edges. Ceramic products available are DURAMEDIA® 40, 120C, 3DCM, H, PWS, WK, XC, and DURALUM® XM. Plastic products available are DURAMEDIA® Plastic Low Density 30 and 40, High Density 130 and 130 EZ, High Performance 230FC and 250FC, and 3DPM.

The scale above demonstrates the range of finishes provided by our vibratory finishing media products. As the scale moves from Non-Abrasive to Fast Cut, the percentage of abrasive content within the media increases as does the percent of metal removal for parts finished in that media. If you know the type of finish you desire, please click on the corresponding part of the scale to see a list of products that will provide your desired finish.
